How to Use the Traffic Exchange Rankings

This page compares traffic exchanges and related advertising programs using two separate measurements: official manual activity testing and automatic public website monitoring.

1. Start With the Combined Score

A Combined Score appears only after a program has both an Official Manual Activity Score and a Public Score. Manual activity receives greater weight because simply having a fast and reachable website does not prove that an exchange has active surf inventory.

Combined Score = 70% Manual Activity Score + 30% Public Website Score

2. Check the Manual Activity Score

The Activity Score measures observations made during official manual surf testing. It considers pages successfully displayed, different websites displayed, no-site frequency and approximate surf timer or wait time.

3. Check Pages Successfully Displayed

This measures how many of the standard 20 page attempts actually produced a website to view.

4. Check Different Website Rotation

The Different Websites percentage measures variety in the available inventory. A program showing many different sites may provide broader rotation than one repeatedly displaying the same small group of sites.

5. Watch the No Site Available Percentage

This measures how often the exchange could not provide another website or returned a No Site Available, No URL or similar condition. A lower percentage is generally more desirable.

6. Use the Public Score Separately

The Public Score measures the public website itself, including HTTP response and response speed. It helps detect unavailable or slow websites, but it does not measure actual surf inventory.

7. Look at the Trend

Trend information compares recent automatic checks and can show whether a website appears stable, faster, slower, improving, declining or currently experiencing a problem.

8. Use the Top 10 Carefully

Only programs with both verified official manual data and public monitoring data can qualify for the Top 10.

9. Retest Over Time

Traffic exchange activity changes. A result represents conditions observed during a particular testing period, so repeated official testing provides better evidence than a single measurement.

How Traffic Exchange Scores Are Calculated

The Traffic Exchange Intelligence Agent intentionally separates observed surf activity from ordinary public website availability.

Official Manual Activity Score

Manual Activity Scores come only from verified official tests. The standard test uses 20 page attempts and records pages successfully displayed, different websites displayed, repeated website displays, no-site frequency and approximate surf timer or wait time.

Public Website Score

The Public Score measures whether the program's public website responds and how quickly it responds. HTTP status and response speed contribute to this score.

Combined Score

The Combined Score gives greater importance to observed manual activity because a working homepage alone does not demonstrate active advertising inventory.

Protection Against Unverified Tests

Unverified manual test records are excluded from the public ranking system. Only tests explicitly stored as official can contribute to an Activity Score, Combined Score or Top 10 position.
